Garlic Mustard Marinade
This is one of my favorite marinades for steak, I misplaced it for awhile so I'm posting it here so I don't lose it again. My Mother never marinaded
anything so the first time I tried it I was worried about what soaking
a piece of meat in a liquid would do to it. Fortunately, my fears were
unfounded and I discovered the joys of marinating. It really is a great
way to tenderize and add flavor to meat.
Directions: Mix the first seven ingredients together, pour into a large zip top bag or a marinating container. Add steak, turn to coat well with marinate and place container in the fridge for several hours. Turn steak several times during this time to ensure it's well covered with the marinate.
Pre-heat grill, barbecue, broiler or a cast iron pan. Sprinkle steak with pepper, cook steak 5-10 minutes per side or until done as desired.
Notes: don't use ordinary, ball park type, yellow mustard in this recipe, it won't be the same! The original recipe called for Watkins roasted garlic mustard, unfortunately it's no longer available. I now use a german type mustard but dijon mustard would work as well. I've used this marinate with a number of inexpensive steaks with excellent results.
You can find Watkins Grapeseed oil, spices and other great products here in the US catalog or the Canadian catalog.
